The Oval cut is based upon the traditional configuration of the Round brilliant cut. In the early 1960'2 Lazare Kaplan was the first to start cutting diamonds in this shape. A length to width ratio of 1.5 to 1 is almost universally considered a pleasing shape for the Oval cut, anything much less and the stone begins to look like a misshapen Round. Over the last few years, Ovals have become very popular as center stones for engagement rings. As with the Marquise cut, the long length of the Oval cut enhances the look of a hand by making it look longer and thinner.

All carat weights are the approximate diamond equivalent weight, Moissanite weighs slightly less.
